> Save a bank statement PDF on Android from your bank app or browser, find it in Downloads, and rename it so you can locate it later.
To save a bank statement PDF on Android, open the statement in your bank's app or website, tap its download or share icon, and send it to your phone's files. Then find it under Recents or Downloads in the Files app and rename it with the account and month, so the next search takes seconds.

## Where does a bank app put a statement PDF on Android?

A bank app often puts the statement nowhere at all. Many apps show the PDF in a built-in viewer that never saves a copy to the phone. To keep the file, look on that viewer screen for a download arrow or a share icon, then choose Files, Drive or "Save to device" in the menu that appears.

Wording varies between banks, so look for any of these on the statement screen:

- a downward arrow, often in the top corner
- a share icon, three connected dots or a box with an arrow
- a three-dot menu with Download, Save or Export inside

When you use share, Android lists apps and places that can take the file. Pick the file manager or Drive, not a chat app. Sending a statement to yourself in a messaging app spreads a copy of your account details across another service you then have to clean up.

If the app offers no way out of its viewer, close it and use the bank's website instead. Websites usually treat a statement as an ordinary download.

## Saving a bank statement PDF from Chrome on Android

On the bank's website, a statement link usually downloads the PDF straight away or opens it in a tab with a download button. Either way, Chrome saves it to the phone's default download location. Google's [Chrome help page for Android downloads](https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95759?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid) says you can then see the file in Chrome's Downloads list or in the Files app.

Watch the bottom of the screen after you tap the link. Chrome shows a short message with an Open button when the download finishes. If you miss it, open the three-dot menu, tap Downloads, and the statement sits at the top of the list.

Two things can go wrong on the website route. Some bank sites open the statement inside the page rather than as a file, and the phone shows it without saving. Look for a download or print icon on that view. The other problem is a site that asks you to choose a format. Pick PDF for the statement itself. A CSV of transactions is useful too, but it is not the statement and it usually lacks the opening and closing balances.

## Renaming a saved bank statement PDF on Android

Rename the file as soon as it is saved. Bank downloads tend to carry names made of numbers or the word "statement", so a folder of them is unreadable. A good name holds the bank or account, the statement month and nothing else, written year first so the files sort in date order.

In most file managers you long-press the file, then tap the three-dot menu and choose Rename. Keep the `.pdf` ending exactly as it is.

| Example name as downloaded | Example name after renaming |
| --- | --- |
| `Statement.pdf` | `bank-checking-2026-08.pdf` |
| `Statement (1).pdf` | `bank-checking-2026-09.pdf` |
| `eStmt_093026_xxxx4417.pdf` | `bank-savings-4417-2026-09.pdf` |
| `document.pdf` | `card-visa-2026-09.pdf` |

These names are examples. What matters is that you choose one pattern and keep it. Year then month, with a two-digit month, keeps September after August in any sorted list. Avoid putting the full account number in the name, since file names show up in previews and share sheets.

## Is a phone scan of a paper bank statement worth saving on Android?

A phone scan is worth keeping only when no digital PDF exists, such as an old paper statement the bank no longer offers online. A downloaded PDF holds the bank's exact text. A scan is a picture, so every digit has to be recognized later, and small errors in amounts become likely.

When paper is all you have, scan it carefully with the scanner built into your phone. [Scanning a bank statement with Android's built-in scanner](/blog/scan-bank-statement-with-android) covers cropping and saving the pages as one PDF. If someone else in the household uses an iPhone, [scanning a bank statement with the iPhone Notes scanner](/blog/scan-bank-statement-with-iphone) gives the same steps for that phone.

Save scans with the same naming pattern as your downloads, with a word such as `scan` in the name. Later, that tells you which files need a closer check after conversion.

## Saving a year of bank statement PDFs on Android

A year of statements means twelve downloads, and the risk changes from losing one file to mixing them up. Make a folder for the account and year before you start, save each month into it, and rename each file before downloading the next. Doing them one at a time stops two files from ending up with the same name.

A short routine for the year:

1. In the file manager, create a folder such as `bank-checking-2026`.
2. Download January from the bank's site or app.
3. Move it into the folder and rename it `bank-checking-2026-01.pdf`.
4. Repeat for each month, checking the period printed on the first page.
5. Count the files at the end. Twelve months should mean twelve PDFs.

Some banks also offer a single PDF that covers many months. That saves taps, but a long file is slower to upload and convert on a phone. [Converting a large PDF statement to Excel](/blog/convert-large-pdf-to-excel) explains page limits and when splitting a big file is the better idea.

Once the files are saved and named, they are ready to convert. FastBankConvert is being built so you can upload from your phone's files and download the spreadsheet on the same phone. It is getting ready to open, and you can [join from the home page](/).
